Infamous Movie Reviews: Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

*Reader Beware, Ranting Ahoy*

Here we are again. It is time for another review of a bad adaptation: Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief! A movie distributed by, who else, 20th Century Butchers 20th Century Pox on Almost All Movies' Adaptations With Their Involvement 20th Century Fox. Like Airbender, it was one of the movies I was looking forward to. And c'mon, Chris Columbus did good with the first two Harry Potters (but in hindsight, he went to Rowling for help), and Night at the Museum was awesome. What could go wrong?

Everything. Everything could.

 So, shall we begin?

THE BAD

-Hello? Clarisse? Where the heck are you, Ares, the Oracle, Mr. D, and several other characters from the book? Oh, wait, Annabeth apparently fused with you and took over part of your role (going against Percy in the first game of Capture the Flag).

-They took the fun of the "Greek Myths fused with Modern Day" stuff and wiped it away. Camp Half-Blood didn't look much like a summer camp (where were the awesome cabins?). And what about the Gods having modern looks (Zeus wears suits, Poseidon wears Hawaiian shirts, etc.)? There was only the first few minutes of the movie, Hades, and The Lotus Casino.

-Everything having to do with Persephone. 1) She didn't have anything to do with the pearls. 2) She wasn't.... attracted to Grover (I don't even think they met in the books). 3) She didn't have issues with Hades. 4) SHE. WASN'T. IN. THE. FIRST. BOOK. They explicably say in the book she was with Demeter.

-The aforementioned Persephone Grover attraction. That made me a little uncomfortable.

-WHERE!? THE!? HADES!? WAS!? KRONOS!? HE'S THE FREAKING BIG BAD OF THE FIRST SERIES!!!!!!!!! AND C'MON! NO MENTION OF THALIA!? SHE PLAYS A ROLE IN THE LATER BOOKS!!

- The Hydra doesn't appear in the first book. It comes up in the second. Seriously, if you needed a monster, Columbus, you could have used one FROM THAT BOOK! Like The Enchinda! I don't care of the Hydra's the better-known monster, USE ONE OF THE ACTUAL MONSTERS PERCY FIGHTS IN THAT BOOK!

-*ahem* All the deviations. Seriously, I understand cutting some stuff out, but some things shouldn't be messed with.

-What? No quest or prophecies?

THE (SURPRISINGLY) GOOD

-I kind of liked Hades having a modern spin here. It was the closest thing to the original books' trademarks, so best not to lick a gift horse on the mouth. (Off-Topic, but I first pictured book!Hades looking like Snape in the Harry Potter movies.)

-When I first saw the movie Grover, I was like, "Why is Grover black?" (In the art, he's a scruffy white guy, with a little beard). I know it may sound racist, but I was curious why he was changed. But I kinda liked movie!Grover better than book!Grover. I don't know why, but I just did.

-----

Overall, I was disappointed. They changed to much stuff for me to fully enjoy the movie. It wasn't as entertaining as the book. Seriously. Well, at least there may not be anoth....

.....
A SEQUEL!? HE'S MAKING THE SEQUEL!?

Okay, Columbus, if you're doing the sequel and happen to be reading, listen up, I have some suggestions:

  1. Don't take this so seriously, part of the books' appeal is that it still has fun with the world it's in and is funny when it needs to be.
  2. PUT KRONOS AND THALIA IN THIS ONE! Thalia's important to the plot, and, as I said earlier, KRONOS! IS! THE! VILLAIN!
  3. Ya know... Just... Just get the author, Rick Riordan, to help you out with the movie. In my opinion, adaptions are better when they have the author's input. Like I said before, J.K. Rowling helped with the Harry Potter movies, and those were good, Columbus. I mean, I read your first Potter movie was the second-highest grossing in the series. It not the end of the world to ask for help....
That's all I gotta say about that. It wasn't the greatest adaption ever, and I'm desperately hoping the sequel's better......

I'm So Happy *Fantastic Four Spoilers*

So, I was looking at the news over at Comic Vine, and I read the MOST GLORIOUS THING EVER!

*Spoilers Begin*

Johnny.

Storm.

AKA.

Human.

Torch.

Is.

Back!

HE'S BAAAAAACK!

I'm so happy now. I love the Human Torch. He's my favorite Fantastic Four member. Heck, when I first watched the Fantastic Four movie, it was his character that I loved the most, and that got me into comics. So yes, Human Torch is pretty much the reason I started reading comics.

I know comic death is temporary, but I was kinda sad when I first heard he died. I didn't know WHEN he would come back. Plus, I was thinking, "Why didn't ya just kill Mr. Fantastic? LEAVE THE FUNNY FIRE GUY WHO ONCE WAS VOICED THE AWESOME QUINTON FLYNN ALLLOOOOOOONE!"

Now all they need to do is revive Nightcrawler (not replace him with a darker and edgier counterpart) and I'll be REALLY happy....

Please?

So anyway, thank you, Marvel, for bringing back one of my favorites....

Welcome back, old friend.....

Infamous Movie Reviews: The Last Airbender

Hello again, I decided to have a better post. Another INFAMOUS MOVIE REVIEW!

*WARNING: POTENTIAL RANTING*

Tonight, I discuss the movie, The Last Airbender. In the beginning, when I heard about it, I was hopeful when they said M. Night Shyamalan was a fan of the series. I mean, he said he was, so what could go wrong? Really?

Turns out, a lot. As one TV Tropes Troper put it:
"Supposedly M. Night Shyamalan approached the people behind Avatar to create a live action movie because he was such a huge fan of the show. Based on the outcome, however, you could be forgiven for thinking he had a seething hatred for it."
Now before I begin, I'm not gonna address that "controversy". The movie probably would've stunk even if it had the "proper races".

Okay, let's move on, and ignore my "possible controversy in the making up there", m'kay? We'll do this in a reverse order from my X-Men Origins review.

THE BAD:

-Changing how Firebending works. I mean, Firebending NEEDING A FIRE SOURCE? WHAT IS THAT MADNESS!? THAT'S. NOT. HOW. IT. WORKS.

- The whole "The Avatar can't have a family" thing. I mean, COME ON! THAT'S NOT PART OF THE AVATAR THING! In fact, if it weren't for AVATAR Roku HAVING A FAMILY, Zuko WOULD NEVER HAD EXISTED! *MIND BOMB*!

- That they seemed to try and cram too much in one movie.

- They dropped out a lot.

- All the mispronunciations of the names. I mean, COME ON!

- NO KOIZILLA! THAT WAS AWESOME! THAT JUST WOULD'VE BEEN THE AWESOMEST SFX EVAH! THAT WOULD HAVE MADE IT ALL WORTH IT TO SEE LIVE-ACTION AND CGI KOIZILLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-The "Pebble Dance" is... really lame.

THE NEUTRAL:

-Changing the time Sozin's Comet comes. Incorrect? Yes. Necessary for a potential sequel (OH LORD NO) to have believable ages? *groan* Yes.....

THE GOOD:

- At least Iroh's awesomeness is enhanced by the "Firebenders Need Fire" Thing. He can bend without a fire source, and it is glorious.

-Well, Shyamalan DID fit in an impressive amount of stuff. Though, again, it dropped out/crammed a bit.

-That's it...

So yeah, it stunk. If Shama-Llama-Ding-Dong tries to make a sequel, all I can say is Toph had BETTER be awesome. Who knows? Maybe "The Pebble Dance" will make Toph even cooler in comparison.

Then again, I was optimistic about this movie.....

I also entertain the idea that if Jesse McCartney had gotten to be in this, he would have somehow magically improved the movie. Like, he would have been all: "M-Dawg! This movie be trippin'! Fix it!" And M. Night would've have agreed, 'cause Jesse has a Keyblade. And connections. And is gangsta.

Overall, this is not good. So I must subject my best friend to watching it so she can feel my pain. >;P.

Glee Song Wish List

So, yeah... I got this idea of posting the songs I want Glee to cover someday. So, let's see how this'll go...

  • Pumped Up Kicks by Foster The People It would be cool. I would kind of like Kurt (Chris Colfer) to do it because 1) Kurt's awesome, 2) He's going to leave the show at the end of season 3, better now then a potential guest starring in a future episode, and 3)It would be a nice break from the OVER 9,000 show tunes he sings. Just sayin'...  AND MAYBE HE'LL GO ON A NINJA RAMPAGE AS HE SINGS IN A FANTASY SEQUENCE!!!!
          .....
          ..A girl can dream.....

  • Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap I'm picturing either the Glee boys or the Warblers (just cuz I love me some Warblers/a cappella) doing this. There'd better not be any Auto-Tune! The Auto-Tune is annoying in the song. Okay, I only want this for potential Glee "Dear Sister" Parodies...
  • OINGO BOINGO! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET IT BE AWESOME! Maybe Puck (Mark Salling) or Artie (Kevin McHale) (or Kurt or Blaine (Darren Criss) :))
  • More Blaine. Nuff' Said.
Eh... This is pointless. Pointless? THIS! IS! FILLER! Yeah, I mostly got stuff for the dudes. What can I say? I like a lot of male artists, and I got nothin' for the girls. So there... Don't question me...

Weekend Artwork #14: X-23 Vs. Xion

So, you know how I like Marvel and Kingdom Hearts? Well, I WAS going to do a fusion picture of X-23 and Xion, but then I decided: "Naw, let's just make a fight scene!" Then the voices in my head cheered, "YES! FIGHT SCENES! SHE SAYS WHAT WE'RE ALL THINKING!" Thus, this is what was born from my brain-meats.

It's kinda weird the initial similarities between Xion and Laura. Both are (*358/2 SPOILER*) female clones of a male character (Sora and Wolverine, respectively), both have dark hair, both were created by sinister groups. Heck, said groups even have roman numerals in their names!

Of course, they have their differences, but I'm just pointing out the minor similarities.

Behold! A crossover fight caused by trigger scents, missions, and few unkind words.....

Yeah, I'm adding this to my list of "Things I Wannna See In A Marvel/KH Crossover"...
So, that's about it! PS, if anyone realizes why it's appropriate that THIS is this weekend's Weekend Artwork, you'll win.... imaginary cookies. They have imaginary chocolate chips and sparkly, sugary rainbow sprinklessssssss......

Oh, and I found this, X-23's Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Theme. Battle Music, anyone? ^^

Infamous Movie Reviews: X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Okay, as promised, I'm doing reviews on movies with "bad reps". Tonight, I'll review X-Men Origins: Wolverine. To be honest, I didn't totally hate the movie. It was entertaining. Lemme break it down:

 WHAT I LIKED

- I admit it, I liked the Wolverine and Sabertooth being brothers twist the movie had. I'm fine with them not being relatives, don't get me wrong. But I thought the two being brothers was a cool idea. I prefer it more then them being father and son (*cough*X-Men Forever*cough*). Sorry, Chris Claremont and X-Men Forever fans, but that's too "Luke I am your father" for my tastes. Sorry. But I gotta give the edge to Fox...

And the edge goes to Fox....
 - I gotta admit, Sabretooth looks pretty fly in this movie.

Heeeeeere's Victor!
-Say what you would like about the casting of Ryan Reynolds (a "pretty boy") as Deadpool (who's disfigured in the comics), but he played Deadpool pretty darn good! You know, in the 11 minutes he was Deadpool/Wade Wilson...

THE NEUTRAL PARTS:

- The changing of Agent Zero (AKA "Maverick") and Sliverfox. I don't know these characters well, so I hold no loyalties. I'm indifferent.

- The plot holes it has with X-Men: First Class. First Class wasn't out yet, so I'll let that slide. Besides, I've read some nice hand waves people came up with. Besides, I rarely care about plot holes...

- Cyclops and Emma Frost being in here. They really brought nothing to the plot. You could of had the movie without them. There's not much to complain about. At least they weren't annoying.... (Sorry, Anti-Cyclops and Anti-Emma. Though I'll ease up on Cyke a little 'cause he's been voiced by the dude who voices Luxord (yes, that redeems him a little).)

DISLIKED:

-Weapon XI/"Barakapool". WHY!? WHY DID MARVEL LET THAT HAPPEN!? THAT WAS HORRIBLE TO DO TO DEADPOOL! At least RR wasn't playing him at that point. Please, let him do awesome in Deadpool's movie and make us forget that!

OVERALL:

It was an entertaining movie. I liked it. Disliked the "Barakapool" thing, but it was still an entertaining movie.

That's all I got for now! Click back next time for either The Lightning Thief or The Last Airbender. Or something else.

  • Another WA Idea: Luxord and Lady Gaga
  • ...........And More!
*Subject To Change

So, like last time: I will have some random videos! YAY!

PEACE OUT!

WHAT IS THIS!?

So, I'm on Wikipedia, looking up all the Nicktoons and stuff, and I see there's a link to the page about the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series (since Nick has the rights now). I was curious, of course, and clicked it. It led to the whole TMNT page, and not only did I learn of the infamous "female Turtle" Venus, but I saw this on the new show:

WHAT!?

THEY'RE CHANGING DON AND MIKEY'S WEAPONS!? THAT'S MADNESS!!! WAIT, MADNESS? THIS. IS. BLASPHEMY!!!!!!! I feel as though someone threw up on my childhood.

See, back when I was little, Lil' Freak LOVED the Turtles. Donatello and Michealanglo where my favorites, 'cause Don was the smart one and Mikey was the funny one. And now this show is CHANGING THEIR WEAPONS!? That Wikipedia acknowledged that they TRADITIONALLY used? Grr...

Look, I love pointy objects that hurt people as much as the next girl, but c'mon! Nunchucks and bo staffs are just as cool. It's not all about stabbing people, ya know! This.... this just upsets me.

But, they did say it was only in the teaser, and teasers can lie. Maybe they're only using them in the teaser. They'll still have their ninchucks and bo staff in the series...

Unless when it comes out, they DO use them. Then they better have a GOOD explaination for their weapon change or I will go into a fan rage.

Here is the offending teaser trailer:

Weekend Artwork #13- Those Two Guards.... and Braig

Hola! So, I was thinking, I don't really show Xaldin and Lexeaus from Kingdom Hearts much love. It doesn't help that they don't play much of a role in the series and really didn't do much. Demyx was Demyx (AND A PAIN IN THE BUTT TO BEAT!!!!), and Luxord was British and had playing cards, so they were more memorable. Anywho, I also don't do much with the Somebodies, either. So I thought, "Hey! Let's do a picture of Dilan and Aeleus, Xaldin and Lexeaus's Somebodies!" So, here it is!

Dilan took his coffee with cream and two sugars, LIKE HIS SOUL!

And eventually, I thought of this little story to go with it. Enjoy!

Those Two Guards.... And Braig

Dilan and Aeleus were returning from their break. They FINALLY got to have it, no thanks to Braig disappearing. But since Lord Ansem the Wise had gone out to take Ienzo to get a new book, and Even was expendable, they could sneak away to get some coffee. As they walked out of Starmunny, with their coffee, poppy seed muffins, and a cookie for Ienzo, Dilan asked, "Where did Braig go?"

Aeleus shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe he's dead." Dilan shook his head. "I rarely question Lord Ansem, but I fail to see why he decided to hire Braig as a guard.." Aeleus chuckled.

"HEY GUYS! 'SUP?"

Aeleus and Dilan both let out a sigh as the sharpshooter ran up behind them. "Hello, Braig." Dilan greeted, exasperated. Aeleus looked at Braig, who's head, eye, and cheek was bandaged. "Where have you been?" he asked, deadpan. Braig paused a little, thinking. As the two walked away, Braig got it and chased them both down.

"You see, I was buying something for Ansem and Even, and the salesmoogle was like, 'That'll be 400 Munny, Kupo!' So I was like, 'Dude, as if! I only got 350, let me pay you the other 50 later!' Then the Moogle's like, 'No! You're going to pay now! Kupo!' And I'm all, 'I can't! Pay day's tomorrow! I work for Ansem!' And he's all, 'Yeah right. Now you will pay... IN BLOOD!' So then he beat me up."

Dilan and Aeleus just stared at him. "Really?" Dilan asked, skeptical. "Seriously! I swear I was attacked by Moogles!" Braig said, and went off in a huff.

"Did he really expect us to believe that?" Dilan asked Aeleus. Aeleus shook his head. "He's a horrible liar." "It's probably better we don't know..." Dilan stated. The two then continued to walk back up to the castle, sipping their coffee. The less headaches they had, the better.

THE END

 Hope you enjoyed!

Overused Plot Parody #5- Back to Tak

Hey, it's been a while since I've done one o' these, eh? So, I've done New Girls, Dib Daddy Issues, Zim Learning The Truth, and Zim/Dib Having "Heel Face/Face Heel Turns" .... What's left?

 Oh,Idon'tknow... TAK'S RETURN!!!!!

 BACK TO TAK

They say her fall out of the sky, on fire. The all-familiar female Irken looked them in the eyes, with a smile akin to a slasher. "TAK!" Dib and Zim shouted in unison. "She's on fire. It must huuuuurrrrrtttt." GIR pointed out, then walked out. Zim cleared his throat. "So, I assume you're here to team up with me and fall HELPLESSLY in love with me, because you are pathetic and not as AMAZING as me...."

This kind of threw Tak off her mojo. "What? No. I'm here for revenge. I HATE YOU!"

"Then she must be here for me." Dib said, looking smug.

"NO! I want you gone, too." Tak growled. She readied to kill them, when..........

"YOU WON'T HURT MY BABY!" Zo popped out of nowhere, screaming and rushing to protect Dib. "I THOUGHT WE SETTLED THIS WHEN YOU DIED IN THE FIRST PARODY!" Vix shouted, appearing and brutally killing Zo in a way no human can describe. Then a figure in a black hood appeared. "VIX! I told you not to abuse the Deus Ex Machina! Back to the basement to "rehabilitate" you!" Vix groaned, and walked over to the Black Hooded Figure. She looked over to Dib. "You will be mine...." She whispered. They dissapeared in a portal, and the Fourth Wall reappeared.

 Zim blinked. "Eh?"

Tak took this weird coincidence to jump into the sky and activate her PAK legs. She lunged at her enemies, like a bird of prey, getting closer.....

THE END?

There you go! Yeah, this was weirder than I thought.

Number Six Here!

Are The X-Books Run By Age of Appocolypse Fanboys?

I'm noticing a lot of things about recent X-Men stuff. One site (*cough* TV Tropes *cough*) mentions how a lot of X-Men writers are total Wolverine fanboys, thus Wolverine gets to be awesome all the time, while Cyclops gets derailed. (And, no, I'm not a Cyclops fan, I'm more of a Wolverine freak myself....). Anyway, being as (while I'm not a regular reader) I try and keep up with comicdom current events. And what I've been reading, the signs are pointing towards the writers loving AoA. Here is my reasoning (with comics for illustration):

1. Nightcrawler of AoA coming over to The Main Universe

As I stated WAAAAAYYY long ago in September, they recently moved AoA Nightcrawler to the main universe for X-Force. While, yes, I understand Earth-616 Nightcrawler (regular universe) isn't really suited for a "mutant black-ops team that kills when necessary", but did they really need to take someone from another universe? Couldn't they have added someone from the normal universe? I'm just saying.....

In retrospect, he should have used X-Force's telepath, Psylocke..

2. Magnetogue

So, since Magneto's gone good (WHAT!?) for now, apparently he and Rogue have a little bit of romantic tension. Excuse me a moment...

*runs and screams "Squicky! Squicky!", then throws up my iced coffee beverage*

...'kay, it's all good! Besides that being kind of gross to me, they were married in Age of Apocalypse. They even had a kid. Hmmm...... Isn't that interesting.....

An Alternate Nightcrawler's Opinion
(And yes, I like putting Scarlet Witch and Nightcrawler together after watching Wolverine and the X-Men, and consider Rogue and Nightcrawler brother and sister (since they're adoptive siblings))

3. X-Force Sure Seems To Keep Going Back To Apocalypse

So, besides adding Kurt "Darkholme", X-Force seems to go back to Apocalypse quite a bit. Their first mission? Kill resurrected Apocalypse. Second, it's mentioned Apocalypse is still alive. Third? They go to the freakin' AoA reality! Seriously.....
EVEN THE NEW GUY IS TIRED OF THE AGE OF APOCALYPSE!

-----

So, it can't be a coincidence. I mean, either A) This is their love of AoA bleeding through, or B) they have some "big master plan involving AoA". Yeah, I'm going with A, and them claiming that it's B.

But, I guess there's some bright sides. If Jean Grey comes back, there's a chance she and Wolverine get together, like in Age of Apocalypse....

Anyone who's reading the newer X-Books regularly want to weigh in?
